How to open a Tangerine Savings Account

Tangerine is heads and shoulders the nicest bank to work with in Canada. Their service is top notch, their website is awesome and they provide services that simply aren’t rivaled in the industry.

Your first step to start banking with Tangerine is to setup a basic savings account. You’ll be happy you did.

How to open a Tangerine Savings Account

Step 1: Go to the Tangerine website

Step 2: Click on “Sign me up”

You’l see a big button in the top right that says “Sign me up.”  Go ahead and click that or just click here.

Step 3: Choose Savings Account

The first option at the top should be Savings account.  But you could also click on “Spending” and then choose a Chequing account if that is a better option for you.

Step 4:  Click “Enroll Now”

You’ll see a little blue button that says “Enroll Now” on the account type that you want.  Click it.

Step 5: Enter your info

You’ll then click that you are a new customer and then you’ll be walked through the sign-up process. You will need to enter some basic personal details on this screen. Don’t forget to enter an Orange Key in Step 6!

Step 6: Get $50 for free with and Orange Key

Tangerine has a special promotion where if you enter a special referral code, that you’ll get $50 free into your new account.  The only catch is that you need to deposit at least $100 into the account in order to see the bonus. When you are entering your personal details in Step 5, you will see a box called “Referred by a friend” like the one below.  Simply enter the following code to get $50:

Step 7: Finish your sign up

You will be sent an email to confirm the account. At this point you will have many more options like setting up an automatic payroll saving plan, printing out void cheques and, of course, regular banking.
